Ziyad Al-Samman delves into his childhood with gorgeous, uninque indie anthems
Returning with his esoteric and genre-bending new EP, Pleasure Complex, – Ziyad Al Samman shares a vibrant exploration of indie-disco soundscapes, showcasing the artist’s ability to blend catchy melodies with introspective lyricism. As Ziyad explains “The songs came together out of necessity, a deep desire and impulse to create something immediate, direct and joyful. Trying to understand my ever-evolving and complex relationship with love and pleasure. A warped yet playful mirror image of human emotions, relationships and inspirations I’ve been soaking” – Ziyad Al Samman
The EP’s lead single, “Ya Habibi,” immediately draws the listener in with its infectious energy, reminiscent of MGMT’s early hits. Al-Samman’s vocals glide effortlessly over a bed of pulsating synths and driving rhythms, creating a sense of euphoria throughout the track. Top notch video as well.
Throughout the EP, Al-Samman demonstrates a knack for crafting memorable hooks and infectious grooves. Tracks like “Bang” and “Space” showcase his diverse influences, seamlessly blending elements of disco, funk, and psychedelic pop. The production is crisp and polished, with a clear emphasis on electronic textures and danceable beats. Fans of LCD Soundsystem and other indie-dance pioneers will find much to appreciate in Al-Samman’s sonic palette.
Lyrically, “Pleasure Complex” delves into themes of love, identity, and the complexities of human relationships. Al-Samman’s introspective lyrics offer a glimpse into his personal experiences, while also resonating with universal emotions.
