‘That Man And Klay’: JR Smith Shares Hatred For Steph Curry, Klay Thompson During The NBA Finals
JR Smith opened up about his hatred playing against Stephen Curry in the NBA finals. In Shannon Sharpe and Chad ‘Ocho’ Smith’s show, ‘Nightcap’, Smith discussed his rivalry with Curry, and how he hated him and Klay Thompson. The former basketball player was involved in a rivalry with the Golden State players from 2015 to 2018.
During that time, the Cleveland Cavaliers took on the Golden State Warriors for the NBA championship. Before he played for the Cavaliers, Smith was a part of the New York Knicks. This time was absolutely fun for basketball fans everywhere, with numerous famous players and infamous moments being shared during this tenure.
“I used to hate him, I ain’t gonna lie,” Smith said. “That man and Klay, I used to hate him, and I was cool with him at one point. We played golf together, went to CP [Chris Paul] wedding together, had a good old time.”
“Then outta nowhere, we get in this situation where we play against each other in the Finals consistent. I’m like, ‘Man, I hate this little dude.’ And I know he hate me at the time, for sure … you can’t do nothing but tip your hat at the end of the day. It was competition.”
The Golden State Warriors went on to win three championships. Smith did not have much of an opportunity to play against Stephen Curry in the finals. While Curry is still leading the Golden State offense, JR Smith has somewhat retired from the NBA in 2020. The player has not signed any official retirement documents, but is ready to play again if called upon.
JR Smith Welcomes Newborn Son With Candice Patton
JR Smith welcomed a son last month with actress Candice Patton. Patton posted a video on her Instagram, featuring Smith holding the baby in his arms. Smith too posted sweet pictures of his son on his account, wearing a white onesie that says ‘Grow Tall’. This is not Smith’s first child, who shares two daughters with his estranged wife, Shirley ‘Jewel’ Smith.
JR Smith has not had a smooth relationship with either Candice Patton, and is still officially married to Jewel. Back in 2019, Jewel accused the NBA star of cheating on her with Patton, and took the news to Instagram. Following this, Smith justified his actions through an Instagram post, stating that he had already been separated from his wife for quite a long time.
