Members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) from Greater Masaka, calling themselves the ‘NRM Foot Soldiers Greater Masaka,’ met with Godfrey Kiwanda Ssubi, the NRM Vice President for Buganda Region, at the NRM Secretariat in Kampala.
As reported by NilePost on Friday, November 8, 2024, their main focus was discussing plans to strengthen the party’s support before the 2026 elections.
The group, led by their chairman, Damian Kabuye, was formed after the National Unity Platform (NUP) won a majority of seats in Greater Masaka in the 2021 elections.
“In 2021, our region changed politically,” Kabuye explained. “Many of our NRM members lost seats, and the party’s influence dropped. We decided to start preparing early to regain our position.”
Representatives from various districts in Greater Masaka—including Masaka, Kyotera, Kalungu, Rakai, Bukomansimbi, Sembabule, and Kalangala—were present.
During the meeting, Kiwanda encouraged the group to involve more young people in their work. He emphasized the importance of youth participation to win back support from opposition areas.
“Sometimes, youth seats are held by older people over 35. This should be changed,” he stated.
The group also requested Kiwanda to be their patron, and he accepted. Kiwanda also promised to help organize a fundraiser to provide a vehicle for the group’s activities.
