5 things we love to do in fantastic Fairhope, Alabama

After he was diagnosed with tuberculosis, Henry Stuart moved from Idaho to Fairhope in the 1920s and lived in this little hut that he called Tolstoy Park, after Russian author Leo Tolstoy. Doctors told Stuart he had less than a year to live, but he lived for another 20 years before he died at 88. His hut has become a Fairhope landmark.

A half-hour or so from Mobile on the other side of Mobile Bay, Fairhope is a Coastal Alabama treasure — an easy, fun little getaway whether you want to spend an afternoon there or stay for the whole weekend.

We don’t get there often enough, but when we do, we never run out of places to go and things to do, and we always leave wishing we had more time.
