According to AIT, Kabiru Yahayya Classic, a former member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State.
The announcement came following a meeting in Kaduna with prominent APC leaders, including the state chairman, Tukur Danfulani, and Lawal Liman, chairman of Senator Abdulaziz Yari’s Political Organization.
Classic, who represented the Anka/Talata Mafara Federal Constituency from 2019 to 2023 under the PDP, cited a lack of “justice and fairness” within the Zamfara PDP as the primary reason for his defection.
“I defected from the PDP because there is no justice and fairness in the Zamfara State PDP chapter,” Classic stated.
Announcing his switch, he added, “I am defecting with all PDP structures in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, including the Local Government EXCO of the PDP and 10 out of 11 Ward Chairmen of the PDP.”
The defection represents a significant boost for the APC in Zamfara, particularly as Classic is bringing along PDP structures and local leadership from Talata Mafara.
Receiving Classic, APC State Chairman Tukur Danfulani celebrated the move, expressing confidence that more PDP members would follow suit soon.
Danfulani reassured Classic and his supporters of a warm welcome and fair treatment within the APC, emphasizing the party’s commitment to internal democracy.
Lawal Liman, who also welcomed the defectors, praised the APC as a forward-thinking party dedicated to progress in Zamfara and across Nigeria.
“The APC is the only party with a manifesto to move Zamfara and Nigeria forward,” Liman asserted, commending Classic and other defectors for joining the “Progressives team.”
The event saw attendance from notable APC figures, including former Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly Nasiru Magarya, the Zonal Coordinator for Senator Yari’s Constituency Office Sha’aya Sarkin-Fawa, and former Zamfara State Secretary to the Government Kabiru Balarabe, along with former commissioners and local government officials.
This defection is part of a broader trend of political realignment within Zamfara State, where APC and PDP continue to vie for influence.
