Eric Omondi, the comedian-turned-activist, made headlines on Mashujaa Day after attempting to host a parallel celebration at Uhuru Park.
The event, aimed at honouring fallen heroes alongside the Gen Z youth, was thwarted by heavy police deployment.Authorities had been stationed at the venue to prevent any unauthorised gatherings.
Aware that he was a prime target of law enforcement, Omondi reportedly received inside information that President William Ruto had given the police free rein over how to handle him, which implied potential dangers.
Determined to outsmart the officers, the comedian devised a clever disguise—dressing as a Muslim woman.
Omondi arrived at the park, blending in with the crowd of Gen Z participants completely unrecognised.
As tensions rose and attendees tried to force their way into the park, the police intervened, overpowering the group.
Due to his disguise, Omondi found it difficult to escape as quickly as others, and officers soon apprehended him.
Upon discovering his true identity, the police were taken aback. Omondi was subsequently taken to Shauri Moyo Police Station, where he was held for five hours.
His arrest sparked a wave of reactions online, with many Kenyans demanding his immediate release.
Following the public outcry, Omondi was eventually freed, adding yet another dramatic chapter to his string of activism-driven stunts.
