Super Eagles star, Victor Osimhen produced an impressive performance for Galatarsaray with a match-winning brace to earn a 3-2 win over Tottenham in the Europa League.
Osimhen was a thorn in the flesh for Tottenham defenders and his performance was rewarded with two well-taken goals to earn his side their fourth consecutive win in all competitions.
Yunus Akgun opened the scoring for Galatarsaray in the sixth minute before Lankshear levelled for Tottenham in the 18th minute.
Osimhen restored the for Galatarsaray in the 31st minute with a low effort in the box to make it 2-1.
He quickly added the third goal five minutes later with a stunning finish from Mertens’ cross to set the hosts on the way to the maximum points.
The former Napoli was close to getting a hat-trick but Tottenham’s goalkeeper proved difficult to beat.
The 25-year-old admitted that the game was tough, but he was full of praise for the club’s supporters for their support all through the game.
Osimhen said, “Tottenham were a very difficult opponent. We made our preparations accordingly. I want to congratulate my team. I would also like to thank our fans who supported us from the first moment to the last.
“Of course, the two goals were important for me. On the other hand, I hope Mauro’s injury is not serious. This victory was important for us.
“It was important for us to win against Tottenham who played well and fought until the last moment. We need to continue our momentum.”
Osimhen also provided an update on his future after reports linked him with a move away from Turkey in the January transfer window.
He said: “I’m here as a Galatasaray player, I’m happy here.
“Since I came, the Galatasaray fans, the club, I saw how big a family this club is. The way they have treated me and my family in a wonderful manner. It’s important to be able to give them my all on the pitch.
“I’ve seen a lot of the speculation linking me out of the club in January, I can state through me now I’m going to be here until the end of the season. And then I don’t know what Galatasaray and Napoli are negotiating but of course, if they come to me to speak about one or two things regarding this club I would consider it, of course.
“But now I’m here, I’m focused on this team, I’m focused on the objective the club has set and I want to give my all and make sure that we win the league and if we can go further in the Europa League we can win it also because we have a good squad.”
Osimhen has now scored six goals and recorded four assists in all competitions for Galatarsaray since joining on loan from Napoli in the summer.
The win propelled Galatarsaray to the third position on the table after their unbeaten start to the competition with three wins and one draw from four games.
Tottenham, on the other hand, sit in the seventh position with three wins from four games.
Up next for Galatarsaray in the competition is a trip to Holland to face AZ Alkmaar, while Tottenham hosts Roma in England on November 28.
