UK town described as ‘what apocalyptic Britain would look like’ with rows of empty shops
The social media user claimed the town would be the first to go in an apocalypse, but his reasons for this were quickly picked apart by residents.
An English town has been described as resembling ‘apocalyptic Britain’ due to closed down shops.
Tilbury in Essex is a port town and the industry it generates. Despite this, a TikTok influencer known for his area reviews dragged Tilbury through the mud.
Speaking to residents and workers, Dilan Kurt delivered a harsh verdict of the town on social media. He said: “The other day, I was in Dagenham, and I thought – what a treacherous place. Now there is one worse place in Essex – and that is Tilbury.”
Highlighting that the 2016 Grimsby movie, set in England’s supposed worst town, was shot in Tilbury, Dilan added: “That definitely says a lot about the area, doesn’t it? ” He emphasised the endless shuttered stores and the washed-out facades of local businesses.
Concluding, Dilan mused that in the event of an apocalyptic scenario, Tilbury would be the grim reality.

However, Tilbury locals would argue the town has historical significance ,with landmarks like Tilbury Fort and its connection to Queen Elizabeth I’s famed speech during the Spanish Armada battle, reports EssexLive.
The fort has been hailed as potentially the finest example of a 17th-century bastioned artillery fortress in the British Isles.
Moreover, the town has frequently made appearances in Hollywood blockbusters, including Paddington and Wonder Woman, both of which were filmed in Tilbury.
