Obaseki: A Man Can’t Lie on the Laps of Delilah and Wake Up in the Bosom of Abraham– Paul Ohonbamu

As his term draws to a close, former Edo State commissioner Honourable Paul Ohonbamu offered his thoughts on Governor Godwin Obaseki’s legacy in a recent interview with TVC News. Obaseki, who had disagreements with both traditional and political leaders, said he hoped that his contributions would be remembered rather than the arguments. However, Ohonbamu believes that Obaseki’s conflicts would always be a part of his legacy.

Ohonbamu used a strong comparison to reflect on Obaseki’s leadership, saying, “A man can’t lie on the laps of Delilah and wake up in the bosom of Abraham.” This refers to a Biblical narrative in which Samson trusted Delilah but was betrayed. Ohonbamu argued that Obaseki’s actions, particularly his confrontations with allies and conventional institutions, will have long-term ramifications, similar to how Samson’s trust in Delilah led to his downfall.

Ohonbamu also labelled Obaseki’s style as one characterised by “wars,” claiming that his leadership instilled fear and alienated certain followers. He further compared Obaseki’s actions to those of a “Taliban,” implying that his authority was characterised by intimidation and violence.

According to him, Obaseki’s acts, both beneficial and contentious, will be remembered long after his mandate has ended.
