When: Caernarvon Board of Supervisors meeting, Nov. 4.

What happened: Supervisors approved moving forward with an ordinance restricting commercial trucks from driving on Best Road and Edwards Road.

Details: The recommended weight limit would be any truck over 12 tons, according to township engineer, Vision Engineering. However, the ordinance would still allow local traffic, like school buses, to travel on these roads.

Quotable: “I’m going to suggest (the ordinance) because of the amount of commercial traffic that can potentially run that road (Best) and how dangerous it is to pull out on Route 10,” said Terry Martin, roadmaster.

Moving forward: There are also concerns regarding trucks on parts of Swamp Road; however, since the township shares that road with Caernarvon Township in Berks County, supervisors decided it was best to reach out to those officials first before taking further action.

What’s next: Supervisors should officially approve the ordinance in December.

Erosion and sedimentation: Supervisors approved not requiring erosion and sedimentation control plans for two property owners constructing barns after the Lancaster County Conservation District deferred the decision to the township.

Background: Erosion and sedimentation plans are typically required for earth-disturbing projects within an area of 5,000 square feet or more, according to the Lancaster County Conservation District. However, due to the nature of these projects, officials did not feel the need to require such plans.

Conservation: Supervisors approved a transferable development right transaction between the property owners at 247 South Poole Forge Road and the Lancaster Farmland Trust to agriculturally preserve the property. The property owners are transferring their development rights to the Trust so the land can be preserved.

AV system: Supervisors conditionally approved purchasing a new audiovisual system for the township meeting room for a maximum of $4,400.

What’s next: Supervisors will have their next meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 9.
