At the Kenya Industrial Training Institute (KITI) in Nakuru, permanent staff members are facing a serious housing problem, according to a Twitter post by vibrant Cyprian Nyakundi. The government constructed housing units at the institute specifically for its employees. However, instead of allocating these houses to the staff, a corrupt housing committee is reportedly renting them out to outsiders.
Led by a chairman named Rotich, the committee allegedly solicits bribes from non-staff and rents the units to them, pocketing the rental income. As a result, permanent staff members are forced to live far away from the institute, making them arrive late to work. This issue has caused significant inconvenience and frustration among the employees, who feel neglected despite serving the institution.
The affected staff members are now calling for the authorities to investigate the corrupt practices of the housing committee and ensure that the houses are allocated to the rightful employees. They hope for a fair and transparent process that will prioritize the needs of the permanent staff, helping them access affordable housing near their workplace.
