When we change our opinions – our behavior matches. – Vocal Lesson 101
Vocal responded!
After having the unsettling thought and action of abandoning my earlier draft about an article that was tentatively being published, I realized how much clarity can arise from the act of writing or simply articulating your opinions. Finding yourself reflecting on the transformative power of jotting down and the act of putting pen to paper or typing out your thoughts often reveals layers of understanding that maybe you hadn’t previously recognized. It’s fascinating how verbalizing your opinions can illuminate new perspectives and bring clarity to our ideas, transforming uncertainty into a more coherent vision.
Truth be told, they were right to have denied the review piece, and for whatever reason they helped me avoid having to delete it later, from my Creators page due to inaccurate information. I’m admitting now, on paper, that I may have jumped to a conclusion about a topic and person, although professionally researched. I seemed to have written with a biased perspective and a haste judgment. You see, while it might have been disheartening to have the review denied initially, it was made clear to me that it was ultimately for the best as it allowed me to reassess my approach and consider a more balanced perspective.
Recognizing your own biases and acknowledging your hasty judgment is extremely crucial to your growth as a writer and speaker. Depending on your perspective and words, you may change the course of another individual, and it may not always be something you are held accountable for. Words are powerful, and this experience only highlights the value of refinement and tolerance. Strengthening your credibility through whatever career choice you have chosen, embracing fear, and honestly delving deeper into yourself, ultimately contributes to a well-balanced individual and a developed mind. The craft of writing and receiving critical feedback is a stepping stone for improvement and marks a diligent soul. You are not only enhancing your quality through this approach but also showcasing your commitment to continuous growth and learning on your creative journey. Every setback is a chance to learn, adapt, and emerge stronger in your endeavors.
These strategies and talking points aren’t something new; however, it did help to have a refresher course 101 in Ethics and Values as I aligned my thinking.
Most often as adults, we learn that particular feeling or thinking within our subconscious which allows us to make decisions that might seem unfair to some, and cause poor judgment on others. Within the working environment, it tends to become a harmful behaviour leading to many negative hiring and workplace culture dynamics. Actively engaging and opening up to these frailties can lead to a more fulfilling workspace and an overall solution strategy.
It only takes one trait or character flaw to create a negative and unfair judgment, and while this can be misleading, it isn’t constructive criticism either.
What sparks our interest initially can turn out to be a nightmare if left unattended and respectfully denied. We spend countless hours on the internet with sometimes baseless claims of an individual due to these above facts, and there isn’t a proper way to correct the impression. A 10-year veteran manager might have received a bad reputation for sternly reprimanding an employee—only to have realized that the employee was having a critical thinking moment and felt particularly insulted, creating untrustworthy team members and disloyal employees.
It takes honesty to confirm biases, and we can do a better job at it. However, many refuse to dedicate their time and research to a wide variety of resources.
