(Kamuli) – Bobi Wine, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), faced multiple obstacles as he attempted to reach Kamuli town, where he planned to open an office and address his supporters. Despite a heavy police and military presence, which blocked main roads and diverted him to a longer rural route, Bobi Wine’s visit saw unexpected success as he connected with villagers in a show of solidarity.
In a post shared on social media, Bobi Wine detailed how the authorities had used various tactics to prevent him from engaging with the people of Kamuli. These included blocking access to radio stations and preventing the official opening of his party’s office in the town. However, instead of discouraging him, the barriers led to a deeper connection with the people in the rural areas.
“We ended up going through many villages that we would never have had an opportunity to visit,” Bobi Wine said. “What more? They thought they were blocking us from accessing the people, but their strategy backfired.”
Contrary to the government’s intentions, Bobi Wine found that many residents had gathered in solidarity, waiting for his arrival since early morning. The encounter reinforced his message, which focused on the urgent need for both political and economic liberation in Uganda.
Bobi Wine expressed concern over the worsening economic situation, specifically highlighting the declining prices of sugar cane, even as the price of sugar has risen. He warned that coffee might soon face similar economic struggles under the current government. “The regime is impoverishing our people,” he said, calling for a united stand against the government’s policies that, according to him, have contributed to economic hardship.
Despite the government’s attempts to suppress opposition voices, Bobi Wine commended the resilience of the people in Kamuli and Busoga region. He encouraged them to continue rejecting the regime, stressing that their solidarity and awareness remain strong despite the ongoing efforts to divide and discourage them.
His message concluded with a call for the people to stay alert and continue the fight for their rights. He also expressed gratitude for the support he received, stating, “THANK YOU PEOPLE OF KAMULI for speaking loud.”
Bobi Wine’s comments also emphasized the broader political struggle, with the hashtag #PeoplePowerOurPower highlighting the ongoing grassroots movement for change. The NUP leader has continued to gain support across the country despite ongoing government efforts to limit his outreach.
