Off the back of the comedian and writer’s tour of his book The Conspiracy Tourist, Dom Joly has just announced he will have a full week of shows on radio station LBC
I’m A Celebrity star Dom Joly has landed himself a huge new radio role on LBC, which he says is “perfect” for him.
The 56-year-old is best known for his Channel 4 TV show Trigger Happy TV. Featuring hidden camera pranks, the show began in 2000 and was shown around the world when it became an overnight hit.
Since then, he’s gone on to release multiple books on travel and has this week finished his UK comedy tour in which he discusses conspiracy theories from around the world. And he’s now told fans he’s bagged a role on LBC for a full week, starting at the end of December.
Dom shared his good news on Instagram Stories, posting a video of himself speaking into the camera, wearing a pair of headphones. He gushed: “Guess who has got a week’s worth of shows on LBC? Hello!”
He waved into the camera, before adding: “Very excited, starting on the 30th December for the whole week – 10 in the evening until one in the morning. Perfect for me. Frankly perfect. So very, very excited.”
The dad-of-two was thrilled to sign up for some shows on the station last year, writing on X at the time: “I’ve got news!!! Taking my hobby of arguing with people online onto national radio – @LBC to be precise. I’ve listened to the station for over 30 years so it will be surreal to have a show. Kicking off 7-10pm 27th/28th December and 6-9pm on the 29th.”
Recently, Dom revealed he’d been targeted by conspiracy theorists following the release of his book – The Conspiracy Tourist: Travels Through a Strange World. Putting a comedic spin on things, the Dom travelled the world, delving into some of the strangest and wild conspiracy theories in existence, including how JFK really died and whether the earth is flat.
But he unknowingly, his work had turned theorists’ attention onto him. While poking fun at them, Dom has confessed he was shocked to find himself becoming the main target for an online group.
Speaking to the Mirror, Dom explained the weird comments he has been bombarded with following the release of his book and his subsequent tour. Mimicking what was said, Dom told us: “They would say: ‘He’s a f****** shill. He’s working for Bill Gates. All of Trigger Happy was a front to build up and knock down conspiracies’.”
“I don’t give a flying f*** about conspiracies,” Dom laughed. “Frankly, in the old days conspiracies were funny, and it was kind of what the village idiot did, and it was just funny. And then the village idiot went online, met other village idiots, and suddenly it’s become f****** serious. Like the president of the United States is into conspiracies.”
“They spent a whole afternoon having a live convention, and the theme of the afternoon was, who is Dom Joly? And I’m like, ‘well, read my f****** books’. But they did some critical research, apparently, and from their own research they have decided that I’m a spy and I have close ties to the military industrial complex. I’m just like ‘f***’.” Such findings have led to him needing to tweak his act that started up again this weekend. “The first leg of my tour was just me telling what I did in my book,” he explained. “The second leg of my tour ends with me going, I’m now a conspiracy.”
