An expert has shared the three foods he reckons you should avoid if trying to lose weight – and it means cutting out a breakfast staple.

Dr Pedi Mirdamadi said those looking to lose belly fat should take note of what they are eating and cut down on certain food items which can cause their weight to fluctuate. Taking to TikTok with his advice, Dr Mirdamadi claimed in the now-viral clip that removing these foods from your diet would make losing belly fat much simpler.

He said fruit should be the first food group to go. He explained: “The first is fruit. Yes, fruit, especially watermelons, bananas and grapes, because these are high sugar fruits and these fruits can cause a rise in blood sugar which causes the body to release insulin. Insulin is a fertilizer for fat, causing fat cells to grow.”

The doctor says those wanting to lose weight should stick to “lower sugar” fruits like berries. Bread was the next item to go, with Dr Mirdamadi revealing its high carbohydrate level also causes “a rise in blood sugar.” Much like the bananas and grapes of the first food group, the rise in blood sugar leads to an increase in insulin and the growth of fat cells.

Dr Mirdamadi added: “Bread also contains gluten, which is very inflammatory and inflammation contributes to weight gain as well.” The last food item to go is another meal staple, with rice ruled out for those wanting to lose weight.

The health expert explained: “Rice is very high in carbohydrates which means it also causes a rise in blood sugar and a rise in blood sugar, as I mentioned before, causes a rise in insulin. And insulin is the enemy when it comes to losing body fat.” Many of the comments disagreed with Dr Mirdamadi’s first choice of foods to go and say fruit can be beneficial in leaving you feel full.

“I disagree with fruit,” one wrote. “So what do you want us to eat please.” Another wrote: “Many studies show that for example, watermelon is great to feel full and lose weight.” A third added: “Stopped listening as soon as you said fruit.”
