Archbishop Muheria criticizes SHIF, accuses gov’t of ignoring plight of Kenyans

Nyeri Diocese Archbishop Anthony Muheria has accused the government of being out of touch with the plight of Kenyans.

Speaking in Nyeri at the canonisation mass of Father Joseph Aramano, Muheria took a swipe at the government for making policies with no regard to how they would affect the poor.

“We are competing in showing power; our leaders are thinking way too much about their image and their future and not thinking about the image of the poor,” he said.

Bishop Muheria took issue with the rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA), which he says has made it difficult for Kenyans to access health services.

“With the shift of NHIF to SHIF, we don’t seem to have had that thought of the sick, people who die because they can’t get services,” Muheria noted.

He has called on the government to exercise humility and empathy when formulating policies and to take a moment to reflect on how the policies impact Kenyans.

“We must learn humility, especially in leadership,” said the Bishop.
