The rescheduled FKF Premier League fixture between Gor Mahia and Bandari FC was cut short on Wednesday afternoon at the Ukunda Showground following incidents involving a section of fans, forcing the game to end prematurely.
Trouble began around the 80th minute when Bandari scored their second goal, taking a 2-0 lead, after which Gor Mahia fans appeared to approach the pitch, disrupting the match.
According to television footage, supporters behind the Bandari goal began to leave their stands, moving closer to the field as Gor Mahia prepared for a set piece. Referee Kelvin Maina promptly stopped the game, directing players to gather in the center of the pitch.
After a 20-minute pause, play briefly resumed but was halted once more as the situation remained tense. Despite several fans having exited the grounds, it was ultimately deemed unsafe to continue.
Bandari FC issued a statement on X, confirming the disruptions:
“Play has been halted after Gor Mahia fans started to riot. Police presence in the stands to calm the situation.”
This incident adds to a growing list of interruptions caused by fan-related unrest in Kenyan football, raising questions about the security measures in place for high-stakes matches.
Football officials have yet to announce any further action, but penalties or a review of the game’s outcome may be expected in the coming days.
In another match that was played today, Sofapaka shared points with Police FC after their match ended in a 1-1 draw at the Dandora stadium.
Police FC has maintained its unbeaten run while Sofapaka has been undefeated in their last three matches.
