From the ‘clean girl aesthetics’ to cucumber facials, social media is full of advice for people who want to improve their skin or change their look.
But not everyone knows what is best for your skin, and not everyone on these apps is an expert.
While sharing general advice isn’t too harmful, people should be cautious when trying trends they see in random videos by influencers and social media stars.

Dr Neera is a certified, Harvard-trained dermatologist and skin cancer surgeon.
She has also joined the masses on TikTok but her videos are aimed at educating people and sharing informative content.
Her insights will help those unknowingly harming their skin in the name of beauty.
In one of her most popular videos, she shares three things that will never touch her face.
She starts the list with makeup wipes, which is “so 2010”, according to her.
Makeup and face wipes might seem like easy and convenient ideas, but they can also destroy the skin barrier constantly.
Most of these products also contain harsh fragrances and irritants that could damage the skin.
Instead, she recommends micellar water which is much gentler and removes makeup effortlessly.

The second item on the list is brow soap, which has become very popular for shaping brows in recent years.
As a replacement, she recommends Minoxidil on a spoolie brush or the tried and true Vaseline.
The final warning is aimed at lip plumpers.
Many lip plumpers cause a tingly effect when applied to lips, and while this doesn’t feel like a major cause for concern, it can be quite harmful.
