Next month, a historic political alliance is expected to form, upending Kenya’s political system as leading opposition figures, such as Kalonzo Musyoka of the Wiper Party and Eugene Wamalwa of the DAP-Kenya, announce plans to join forces with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The foundation of the alliance suggests that former President Uhuru Kenyatta was quietly involved in the pact, as seen by the inclusion of his close ally Jeremiah Kioni.

According to insiders, this new alliance will compete with the Azimio coalition, which earlier came very close to winning the president in 2022.

Recent betrayals among the opposition ranks, including the purported ODM partnership with President William Ruto’s UDA party, have sparked Kalonzo and Wamalwa’s intended departure from Azimio.

While Francis Mwangangi, the deputy governor of Machakos, said that important leaders from Mount Kenya are already on board, Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo hinted that the coalition, which aims to unite Kenya’s opposition voices, will be fully operational by year’s end.

Ahead of the 2027 elections, this coalition pledges to change Kenya’s political landscape. Gachagua is anticipated to give disenchanted followers from Mount Kenya guidance, promising to soon present a united front.
