President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni recently expressed his frustration and embarrassment over the ongoing issues surrounding the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA). During a meeting at State House with farmers and stakeholders from the coffee industry, Museveni openly criticized the authority for its failure to improve the situation for coffee farmers in the country. According to those present, the UCDA has consistently done more harm than good since its establishment.

The stakeholders at the meeting voiced their concerns about the ineffective policies and actions of the UCDA, which they argued had not yielded the desired results for coffee farmers. These criticisms were based on the belief that the authority’s efforts had not contributed positively to the growth and sustainability of the coffee sector.

Museveni, visibly displeased, suggested that the state of affairs within the coffee industry reflected a deeper problem within the UCDA’s approach to handling the sector. His comments signaled a clear frustration with the institution, highlighting his disappointment that such a crucial industry had not been adequately supported by the body meant to guide and promote it.

This exchange underlined the growing dissatisfaction among farmers and stakeholders, urging for a review of the UCDA’s operations and possibly a new direction to address the pressing challenges facing Uganda’s coffee industry.
