Last week I was given the opportunity to drive an amazing car during the Hilton Head Concours weekend. The car was the Alpina V8 Roadster. Yes, the car is a BMW Z8 but when built in Alpina form it is called the V8 Roadster. It has all the unbelievable hand built quality of the standard Z8, but changes out the suspension, engine, wheels, transmission, and some interior bits for ones provided by Alpina. The springs in the car are the same as the regular Z8, but the shocks have different valving to make for a more comfortable ride, the engine is not the S62 from the E39 M5, instead it’s the M62 V8 that is then heavily modified in-house at Alpina. In addition it does not have a six-speed manual but instead a five-speed automatic. While this might sound bad, in reality it makes this touring car more usable and easier to drive in daily use. Total production of the Alpina V8 roadster version of the Z8 was only 555 cars, making it the most rare version of the Z8s.
After spending almost a week with an almost perfect condition Alpina V8 Roadster from the BMW Group Classic Collection, I feel like I can now comment on these amazing cars as far as value based on condition is concerned.

This specific Alpina V8 Roadster has covered 25,000 original miles and is still in its original paint of Titanium Silver Metallic over a Black Nappa leather interior. It is number 425 of the total 555 cars built.
This is a true one owner car that includes both hard and soft tops, 20″ Alpina wheels, and is completely original and unmodified.
The pictures show a car that has been driven, but one that has also been truly well cared for. It is a car that I would happily buy myself tomorrow and then drive home to Connecticut.
With an asking price of $264,500 it is an excellent deal especially if you have been considering adding a more modern open top European GT car to your collection. I also feel that at that price you cannot make a better choice than this Alpina V8 Roadster. It is the most rare version of the very popular Z8 and is likely to continue to be a desirable collector car until the end of time.
