Manchester United have agreed a deal with Sporting for Rúben Amorim to arrive at the club next Monday.
The Red Devils have been linked to Sporting’s Viktor Gyökeres even before appointing the Portuguese as their new manager.
On Monday, Record reported Manchester United are assured to make an approach for the striker. He hasn’t ruled out the possibility of reuniting with Amorim at Old Trafford after this season.
L’Equipe mention Manchester United when covering Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in the 26-year-old.
PSG advisor Luis Campos has identified the Sweden international as one of the two main targets for next summer. His assistant, Olivier Gagne, has already held talks with Sporting and the player’s agents, Hasan Cetinkaya and Ali Dursun.
The Ligue 1 side are expected to battle it out with Manchester United and other clubs for the former Coventry City man. The Red Devils are among the teams evaluating his profile for next season.
Gyökeres has a €100m clause in his deal that lasts until 2028. The Lions will refer to this in January but could be willing to lower the price at the end of this season.
Luis Enrique needs to be convinced because L’Equipe state the manager doesn’t feel PSG should spend big on a player like Gyökeres.
On the other hand, Amorim would be key for Manchester United to sign the frontman. He has excelled under the new Portuguese coach’s orders at Sporting.
Gyökeres managed 66 goals and 19 assists from 67 games for Sporting of which 23 goals and four assists are from this season.
In short, PSG are expecting a battle with Manchester United for Gyökeres and both Luis Enrique and Amorim will be key for the deal.
