Police officer in Kayole, Nairobi County in turn of events, arrested boda boda operator Moses Makau Ndunda for alleged possession of a stolen firearm.

The weapon, a Ceska pistol, was reported missing by PC Peter Mburu Irungu, an officer with the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU), who had filed the theft report in August.

Authorities detained Makau at the Saika stage after receiving a tip from local residents. During questioning, he led the police to his residence in Dandora, where a search resulted in the recovery of the Ceska pistol, fully loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition.

In addition to the firearm, police confiscated a red Lefan motorcycle with registration KMGC 305P, which they suspect may have been used in connection with the crime.

According to PC Irungu’s statement, the incident occurred on August 17 after an evening out with friends in the Mihang’o area along the Eastern Bypass.

Following a series of visits to local entertainment spots, Irungu was ambushed by two individuals on a boda boda while en route to his mother’s home.

The suspects reportedly stole his service pistol, a wallet containing identification and bank cards, and his phone.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kayole and Mihang’o have since visited the establishments Irungu visited that night. One location has CCTV footage that may offer clues into the events leading to the theft.

Meanwhile, Irungu’s wife confirmed he left home carrying the firearm that day. Irungu was later detained to assist investigators in uncovering additional details surrounding both the theft and the weapon’s recovery.
