Nicole Scherzinger sparks backlash as she ‘comes out as Trump supporter’

Nicole Scherzinger was furiously warned off by some fans as she made a statement that caused some to single her out as a Trump supporter.

Nicole Scherzinger demanded to know how she could replicate controversial former comic Russell Brand‘s head gear as he boasted of a hat modelled on Donald Trump‘s ‘Make America Great Again’ slogan.

Though the bright red baseball cap looked like one of the famous Trump MAGA hats, it was actually emblazoned with the words “Make Jesus First Again”. Russell, who was bearing a broad grin as he pointed to the hat, then captioned his post “God bless America”.

It’s not clear whether Russell’s hat was a parody or a genuine reflection of his political beliefs. He endorsed Labour minister Jeremy Corbyn in the 2017 election, suggesting that at that time he had left rather than right-wing views.

However, back in July he seemed to have changed direction as he claimed on YouTube: “If you care about democracy, if you care about freedom, I don’t know how you could do anything other than vote for Donald Trump for precisely the reasons that they claim that you can’t.” Meanwhile, Nicole replied to his social media post with the question: “Where do I get this hat!!!?”

However, it’s unclear whether the former Pussycat Doll and X Factor judge, who was raised as a devout Catholic, was praising the religious message on Russell’s hat or joining in with the support of Trump. She punctuated her question with a praying hands emoji and a heart emoji, which soon came to the attention of concerned fans.

“F*****g hell, Nicole, not this!” one follower groaned, while another stated that she’d “come out as a Trump supporter”.

A third shared a vomit emoji while blasting: “Nice, predator enabling!” and a fourth warned: “No, hun, this ain’t it at all.”

Democrat supporters have slammed Trump over his previous convictions, including 34 felonies for allegedly falsifying business records to conceal a “hush money” payment made to pornographic actress Stormy Daniels.

Trump was also found liable for sexual abuse – but not rape – by a jury after allegations made by a journalist based on a 1995 encounter.

Trump is appealing both this case and one of defamation, which saw the woman awarded $88.3million (£68million).

He has also claimed he has never met her before.

Trump opponents fear that the Republican leader could pass harmful laws in relation to abortion rights, while his supporters suggest that he is likely to clamp down on illegal immigration.

Meanwhile, Russell Brand is also being investigated over historic sex abuse and rape allegations, which he denies.

He has described his past as “extremely promiscuous” but insists all sexual relationships were consensual – and he has recently reinvented himself as a Christian.

Express.co.uk has contacted Nicole’s representatives for comment.
