We use vacuums around the house to help keep our homes keep and smelling fresh.

However, did you know there’s a simple hack you could do to make sure the vacuum itself also isn’t creating a stink – and all you need is one household item.

Claire, known as SisterPledge on Instagram, is a professional cleaner from Wales. She regularly shares her “realistic and easy” home and cleaning tips with her 88,700 followers on her @sisterpledgecleans account.

And her fans were loving one of her latest reels about how to keep your vacuum fresh with a simple tea bag.

The clip began with Claire grabbing a Yorkshire tea bag out of the box as the words ‘Tea bag hack’ were written over it.

The cleaner then opened up her vacuum lid as she placed the tea bag in it. She wrote: “Put one fresh tag bag into your vacuum cleaner bag/dust canister.”

She then put down the link and placed the dust canister back on to her vacuum before hoovering as normal. Explaining the trick, she wrote: “Black tea acts as a natural deodoriser, absorbing odours inside your vacuum.”

Following up in her caption, she wrote: “The tannins in black tea help absorb moisture and pet smells naturally. If you want a bit of extra scent, add a couple of drops of essential oil – it’s perfectly safe! You can use any brand, as long as it’s black tea. Give it a try next time you vacuum!”

People were loving the simple tip, with the post racking up more than 2,700 likes. One person exclaimed: “What a good hack!” While another added: “What a great idea. Thanks for sharing.”

However, others couldn’t help but share cheeky jokes, as someone wrote: “Hi love can you put the hoover on, I am gagging for a brew.” Another added: “Then make hubby a brew after with the bag.”

A third quipped: “Do you know how much those beauties are,” while a fourth added: “How dare you use a Yorkshire teabag for this, blasphemy!”

A box of 40 Yorkshire Tea bags is currently on sale at Tesco for £1.75, or there are many other varieties of tea that you can try.
