Ticket scalping has become a major issue in India, especially for major entertainment events, where resellers inflate prices to profit from high demand. This practice undermines fans’ access to legitimate, affordable tickets and violates India’s legal guidelines on ticket sales.
The scalping situation became apparent during the recent ticket sale for Coldplay’s concerts, scheduled for January 18, 19, and 21, 2025. Tickets were made available on BookMyShow on September 22, 2024, at noon but sold out in merely 30 minutes. Numerous users reported being logged out of the platform before the sale commenced, while tickets rapidly surfaced on Viagogo at prices soaring 30-40 times their original value.
