The North Central Youth Development Group has commended minister of defence for State, Dr.Bello Matawalle, for the significant strides in addressing security challenges in the North Central region and beyond.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the group’s state Chairman, Alhaji Umar Abawa, acknowledged the severe threat posed by banditry and other criminal activities to the lives and property of citizens.
Despite these persistent challenges, he highlighted the notable efforts made by the North Central region to combat these menaces.
Abawa emphasized the need to recognize the recent successes, particularly within the past few months, that have earned Dr. Matawalle’s commendation.
“President Tinubu, through his substantial efforts, has commended Matawalle and has taken significant steps to ensure the safety of lives and property by increasing military operations, personnel, and resources to combat bandits in their strongholds.
“These efforts deserve recognition and have encouraged many of our people to return to their homes and farms.”
The Chairman further noted that normalcy has been restored in states like Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, and even the Federal Capital Territory.
The improved security situation has allowed people to resume their normal lives and livelihoods.
“We are witnessing a reduction in attacks and kidnappings in many parts of our region, especially in Benue, Kogi, and other areas.
“We urge the military to intensify their operations in these regions and express our gratitude for their ongoing commitment,” he added.
The group also extended its appreciation to the office of the National Security Adviser, Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu, for his increased attention and the continuation of air and ground military operations in bandit enclaves in the eastern part of the state.
Abawa expressed optimism about the future, stating that with full cooperation between state governors, other security stakeholders, and the federal government, the issue of insecurity can be significantly reduced or even eradicated.
