Marcos Alonso delighted for 18-year-old Chelsea youngster after starring in Conference League vs Noah
Chelsea’s attack turned on the afterburners on Thursday night in the 8-0 demolition of Noah in the Conference League group stages.
Chelsea maintained their 100 per cent winning start in the Conference League by thrashing Armenian club Noah by an eight-goal margin.
Enzo Maresca, the Blues manager, rotated his entire starting XI for last night’s game. It goes to show the incredible strength in depth at the club this season.
Pat Nevin doesn’t think the Conference League is high up on Chelsea’s prioritises this season, but it looks like such a fantastic opportunity to go and try to win a European competition.
Marco Alonso celebrates Marc Guiu’s first Chelsea goal
Chelsea youngster Marc Guiu, who’s just 18, scored his first competitive goal for the club in yesterday’s victory over Noah. The teenage striker lead the line from the start and produced a clinical finish when 1v1 with the goalkeeper.
Guiu celebrated his first Blues goal with an Instagram post, which received several eye-catching responses in the comment section.
Former Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso, 33, was among those to reply to congratulate the Spanish teenager.
Chelsea defender Axel Disasi praised Guiu after his goal against Noah, which he hopes will be a great platform for him.
It’s understandably hard for the young frontman to get many minutes, though. So far, he’s made seven appearances across all competitions this season, starting three times.
Chelsea competition at striker
Guiu reminded everyone of his potential and quality with an eye-catching first-half performance against Noah before being substituted off. Unfortunately, the young talent finds himself third in the pecking order for the centre-forward position.
As it stands, Nicolas Jackson has been the first-choice striker starting matches in the Premier League. That’s resulted in Christopher Nkunku being the understudy, while Guiu is third in line.
Player | Appearances (All Competitions) | Goals | Assists |
Nicolas Jackson | 11 | 6 | 3 |
Christopher Nkunku | 16 | 10 | 1 |
Marc Guiu | 7 | 1 | 0 |
Jackson has done the heavy lifting in the Premier League by scoring all six of his goals in the top flight. In contrast, nine of Nkunku’s 10 goals have been in various cup competitions.
Paul Merson admitted earlier in the season he prefers Jackson starting over Nkunku at Chelsea, which is clearly an opinion that Maresca agrees with.
