In a sombre ceremony, the body of Lucy Wambui Ng’ang’a, the woman whose life was tragically cut short due to a botched plastic surgery procedure carried out by Body by Design, was laid to rest at her home in Redhill, Kiambu County on Tuesday.

The deceased’s body arrived at her home in Ndenderu, amid an atmosphere of deep sorrow and mourning.

Her family has been left grappling with unanswered questions about how their beloved ended up in the hands of operators whose negligence led to her untimely death.

“I just pray that she is in an amazing place; I just wish the best for her,” James Macharia Ng’ang’a, the deceased’s son, said.

Lucy’s four children and their father, overwhelmed with grief, were unable to speak further with close friends stepping in to share heartfelt memories of Lucy, painting a picture of her generous spirit.

She was remembered fondly for her kindness and generosity. Friends, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, condemned the negligence that led to her tragic demise.

The leaders expressed their outrage and pledged to fight for justice for Lucy’s family, as Body by Design rushed to file a petition to prevent the closure of its premises by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).

“As we bury Lucy, we want to call on the authorities who regulate medical facilities to protect the people of Kenya. When establishments market themselves in a nice way, people tend to trust them. More often than not, they believe the promises and end up in facilities that are not licensed and not professional. Let me call upon our people to always be cautious when seeking medical help,” said Gachagua.

Lucy passed away last Thursday after seeking beauty services at Body by Design, which was marketed as a health clinic. However, government documents revealed it to be a beauty spa, which has since been shut down by the authorities.

The family is now calling on other victims who have suffered at the hands of Body by Design or Omnicare Medical Ltd to come forward. They hope to gather enough evidence to ensure justice for all families affected by the company’s actions.

“What we are going through is very unfortunate and I want to call out anybody who has gone through a similar situation or is going through to please please come forward,” Brian Ng’ang’a, the deceased’s eldest son, said.

Body by Design attempted to prevent its closure by filing a court petition, but their request was denied.
