Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) Francis Zaake has vowed to pursue legal action against Kilak North MP Anthony Akol and several other MPs after a heated altercation broke out in the parliamentary chambers on Thursday.

The scuffle reportedly began when Zaake claimed that a firearm had been brought into Parliament, alleging that its presence was intended to intimidate MPs as they prepared to debate the National Coffee (Amendment) Bill 2024.

According to a report by NTV Uganda, the confrontation reportedly escalated, leading to Zaake’s hospitalization at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya, where he is currently receiving medical care.

Reports indicate that he suffered physical injuries, allegedly inflicted by Akol and other MPs involved in the incident.

Zaake, who has been a vocal figure in Parliament, maintains that he was unfairly targeted and assaulted during the parliamentary session.

Baker Ssenyonga Mulinde, a journalist with NTV, visited Nsambya Hospital to observe Zaake’s condition. Though specifics about his injuries remain unconfirmed, Mulinde’s visit highlighted the severity of the situation, sparking further attention on Zaake’s allegations.

Reports also suggest that Akol remains unapologetic for his actions, fueling Zaake’s resolve to seek justice through the courts.
