Mum-of-two Dianne Bourne braved Victoria Beckham’s diet every day for a week – and she was shocked by what Posh Spice’s diet consists of.
Victoria Beckham is well known for her slim figure and toned physique, having hired a personal trainer and revealing her workout routine earlier this year. The Spice Girls singer is a big fan of weightlifting, her trainer Bobby Rich told The Times in August.
But it’s not just her training routine that gives her the iconic figure she dons today, with her husband revealing she has a very strict eating regime. David Beckham confessed the singer has “eaten the same thing for the last 25 years” in an interview in 2022.
“Unfortunately, I’m married to someone who has eaten the same thing for the last 25 years,” the dad-of-four explained on the River Cafe Table 4 podcast. “Since I’ve met Victoria, she only eats grilled fish, steamed vegetables.”
Keen to understand the effects of this diet and whether it’s sustainable, Manchester Evening News reporter Dianne Bourne put it to the test. However, it’s fair to say that Dianne was less than impressed, claiming her meals tasted plain and she was left hungry and tired – not to mention having to deal with a fishy smell in the house.
Journalist Dianne, a mum-of-two in her forties, couldn’t believe how expensive fresh fish was in the supermarket, opting for the more reasonable end of the scale with cod loin at £5.75, fresh salmon for £4.75 and sea bass for £5.25. But if she had opted for tuna steak, it would have set her back £7.90.
Her weekly bill came to £40 just for the fish and veg, not counting breakfast or food for her family – and she ran out of fish by Wednesday, needing to fork out another £15. For breakfast, she would eat fresh fruit, something Victoria is known to be a fan of, and she had the occasional glass of wine for the same reason.
Dianne found the meals to be rather plain and she had to add flavour with heaps of soy sauce, something Posh probably doesn’t do due to the high sodium levels. On day three, she revealed: “I usually head out for a midweek run, but I have to be honest I’m feeling rather lacking in energy and hungry today so I give it a miss.”
By day five, she wrote: “The house stinks of fish now, I’m having to empty the bin DAILY to disperse the pong of fish packaging but yet still the odour of the ocean dead lingers heavy in the air.”
At the end of the week, Dianne decided to weigh herself and was shocked to learn she hadn’t even lost weight, in fact, she had actually gained half a pound.
She admitted she wouldn’t be continuing with the Posh Spice diet. “Either way, it was enough of an excuse to call a halt to this experiment once and for all.”
Diane has since returned to her usual diet, likely put off from fresh fish for a while.
