Multi-award winning kwaito singer Lvovo Derrango is accused of releasing a song he did with Mpumi without her consent.
It is alleged they teamed up for a recording session where they did a song, Nomalanga.
Sources close to the situation told TshisaLIVE Lvovo and Mpumi did the song a long time ago but never had the time to release it. “We [are] not sure what led to the song being released and whether he notified Mpumi, but it seems Mpumi doesn’t know anything about the song being released.”
Another source said: “Mpumi isn’t aware of the song being released because if she [was] we would’ve seen her posting about it on her social pages. The song was recorded while she was still signed under Helem Productions and she’s since left the label.”
Mpumi told TshisaLIVE she would’ve appreciated being notified. “We recorded the song [a] few years ago but it wasn’t released and there weren’t valid reasons why. I’m surprised I wasn’t alerted. I’d appreciate it for them to let me know the song is out.”
The Bangisukela hitmaker shifted the blame to his manager for not engaging with Mpumi about the release. “I’m still at home recovering, so all work-related issues my manager handles. All I know is my office reached out to her and there’s nothing I can do now because the song is out without her knowledge. I apologise to her.”
Asked why he decided to release the song so long after it was recorded, Lvovo said: “It’s because I’ve been recovering and listening to songs I did and realised this song was never released.
“There’s no bad blood between Mpumi and I, she’s my sister and I loved her work ethic ever since she entered the industry.”
